Sunset in the mountains, completed and modified.

The colour used for the mountain in the top picture is too pink so, after completion, I washed out much of the mountain colour and applied one with a stronger ultramarine base. (As in the lower picture, which is an improvement).
I'll be doing this picture again as it was a challenge and worth doing in colours that better complement each other.
The effect of 'low cloud' trapped in the valley is a 'happy accident'. which I am pleased with.

  1. hmm.. I don't know, Beryl.
It feels lke its lacking something, but I can't put my finger on what. There's something about the trees and the second mountain which sits uncomfortably.
Of the two, the pink one has more clarity - and I like the low lying cloud also :)

  2. As you know Pat, the original colour I used was incorrect so the correct colours used lower down will not now sit comfortably with the mountain colour.
Also, as mentioned earlier the middle ground did not work well as the area was too dry.

  3. Funnily enough Beryl, I prefer the pink one!
I don't think its so much the colours, but the hard edges on the top lines of the two greens, not the softened valleys.
Mind you, they may have been there on the original and perhaps its the one painting that isn't my cup of tea. We've both felt like that before with provided pictures.
